Verde Valley Guide

South of Sedona and Flagstaff, the Verde River carved a fertile valley that supported some of Northern Arizona's largest ancestral communities — and today connects Montezuma Castle, Tuzigoot, and the towns of Camp Verde, Cottonwood, and Jerome.

About the Verde Valley

South of Sedona and Flagstaff, the Verde River cuts through a broad, fertile valley that has supported human communities for centuries. The Sinagua people built some of Northern Arizona's most significant settlements here, including Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot, drawn by the reliable water of the Verde River and its tributary, Beaver Creek. Today, the valley is home to the towns of Camp Verde, Cottonwood, and Jerome, along with vineyards, historic sites, and some of Arizona's most scenic drives.
