About the Colorado River
The Colorado River carved the Grand Canyon over millions of years and remains the defining natural feature of the American Southwest, flowing from the Rocky Mountains through Arizona and on to the Gulf of California. Along its course, the river has shaped landscapes, sustained wildlife, and supported human communities — including several Indigenous nations, among them the Colorado River Indian Tribes and the Hualapai Tribe — for longer than recorded history in this region.
