Monument Valley

Monument Valley's towering sandstone buttes rise from the Navajo Nation along the Arizona-Utah border, forming one of the most iconic and recognizable landscapes in the American Southwest.

About Monument Valley

Straddling the Arizona-Utah border, Monument Valley's towering red sandstone buttes and mesas rise dramatically from the desert floor, carved over millions of years and shaped further by wind and water. The valley lies entirely within the Navajo Nation and is managed as Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, distinct from the U.S. National Park System. Many Navajo families continue to live within the valley today, and guided tours led by Navajo guides offer access to areas of the park not open to independent visitors.

Full guide content is coming soon — check back for a deeper look at the valley's formations, history, and respectful ways to visit.
